  • Antique cedar table-top file drawers from Victoria's Legislative Assembly. This cabinet represents a rare chance to own a piece of Melbourne political history. This set of filing drawers sat on a table top and it still contains almost 100 of the named dividers, with such titles as 'Banks', 'Great Britain- Tarrifs', 'Sociology', 'Mueller', 'Hart', 'Besant' etc. The drawers are fitted with a unique operating system. As you pull out a drawer a brass lever catches the drawer below which also comes out so as to provide support for the drawer above. This enables the user to gain access to the very back of the drawer without the drawer falling out. All the drawers have a central divider. Eleven of the 12 drawers have a unique brass ring pull handle with integrated label holder. The top centre drawer was missing when we acquired this item so we have made a replacement, using matching antique cedar from another piece of furniture from the same era. Exceptionaly rare, competently made and lovingly restored. Circa 1890. Height: 41.5 cm Width: 106.5 cm Depth: 48.5 cm
