Description

A beautiful matched set of 300 year-old English engravings of stately mansions.

Kip has gone to great trouble in portraying the detail in the architecture and the ‘bird’s eye view’ is a perspective that could only have been imagined when these were executed, as even hot air balloons were still 60 years away from being invented. The perspective shown is an indication of Kip’s skill and illustrates why these images are so well regarded.

These engravings were only produced in black and white at the time. There are versions that have been hand-coloured at a later date.  All the engravings we are offering are printed on hand-laid paper & have a central vertical fold, which is the way they were made. Reproductions are available that do not have the actual fold.
